Meet Parker
As a person with Cerebral Palsy who identifies as being disabled, I understand the difficulty in finding a mental health provider that understands the challenges faced in day to day living. Whether it’s struggling to focus on mundane tasks or encountering a space that did not have your specific body in mind, it’s my goal as a clinician to assist in navigating these complex and diverse issues. With my degree in social work, I have worked in a variety of spaces from substance use counseling with a focus on harm reduction, to working as a school social worker addressing the mental health and systemic needs of low income elementary school children. In each of those areas, my approach to the concerns brought by clients has been trauma and disability justice informed; simply put, my approaches are client centered with regards to both day to day living and the larger systemic inequalities impacting your life.
Throughout my education and professional experience I’ve utilized Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to engage clients within their value systems and needs. Whether that is processing a major life event, enhancing your skills to deal with discomfort, or challenging negative perceptions. However, these modalities are only tools, and if you find these don’t work for you, I strive to be creative in working together to develop skills that do work for you.
